If you believe the Sun's Police Blotter, this is what one of the most interesting towns in New Mexico looks like.

Today, let's start with a joke...

"Knock, knock."

“Who’s there?”

[Sounds of screen door being taken off its hinges] “Uh, do you have any old cars for sale?”

“Uh, Do You Have Any Old Cars For Sale, who? ...Wait, what?”

That joke appeared in another form, in the police blotter of Española’s Rio Grande Sun, on May 29, 2008:

Wednesday, May 14

• 1:51 p.m. — A County Road 144 caller said two men came and took the screen off her door and were asking to buy old cars. No report was wanted.

So, if you live in the Española area, you may want to think twice before answering your door.

Or your phone. Also from the May 29 blotter:

Monday, May 12

• 11:53 a.m. — Dispatchers received a call from an Upper San Pedro Road residence with no one speaking into the phone; background noise was audible. The person continued to dial numbers, said she was trying to dial Social Security, and refused to give her name. Dispatchers determined the woman was a schizophrenic who got hold of the phone while her caretaker was asleep.

And really, you can’t even sneak out the back to take out the trash.

From the blotter again:

Tuesday, May 13...

• 11:55 a.m. — The Santa Cruz Post Office postmaster said a man was dumping pigeons, both dead and alive, in the dumpster. Police met the suspect at his home and advised him that the Post Office didn't want any dumping at the dumpster.

And, though this doesn’t leave a lot of options, you can’t even just stay inside and watch TV.

One final time from the blotter:

Friday, May 16

• 6:45 a.m. — A Private Drive 1625 caller said he just wanted to let someone know that the TV and everyone are spreading the wrong word. Officers were advised.

The sign at the dumpster behind our apartment clearly says:

"NO DUMPING"

So, one of the residents was throwing his garbage over in the ditch.
Guess that bin's there for aesthetic reasons only. *LOL*

(love those police blotters :D )

Mike - On that first one I would think twice about not answering the door.
My reply to the any old cars for sale question would have been -
NO! BUT I GOT THE CONTENTS OF TWO DOUBLE OUGHT BUCK SHOTGUN SHELLS YOU CAN HAVE - FOR FREE!!

Can't say I blame her for not wanting to make a report. That could just give all the other Dirt Bags out there ideas on how to operate. Those bottom feeders are probably the # 1 readers of police blotters - for professional reasons. Looks like Españolas drive by press gave it away anyhow.
Thanks again Mike for letting the people know whats going on.
